The 8 A's of Change: Awareness
What hopes are you becoming aware of?
Recently, I presented “The 8 A’s of Change” to a group of leaders, consultants, and therapists. I thought I’d share some of the content with you, because as an Engineering Leader, you are in the change business. I’d love to hear your thoughts as we go.
What are the A’s?
The A’s are eight words that characterize eight phases of the change process, created by Jean McLendon. Here’s an overview:
Awareness
Acceptance
Authorship
Articulation
Application
Activism
Altruism
Alchemy
Without further ado, let’s get started…
We become aware of a desire for change.
Maybe something no longer fits; something new is needed.
Maybe an old way of coping isn’t working.
Maybe a relationship has run its course.
Life is asking something different from us.
Maybe it happens slowly, maybe with a BANG.
But without awareness, change cannot begin.
Here is where we start.
Now it’s your turn…
What hopes are you becoming aware of?
What discomforts or frustrations do you notice?
Is there an awareness you’ve been pushing away that keeps coming back?
Next up: Acceptance.
If you want to, write me back.
